Position Summary:

As our clients’ personal CFOs, we are considered trusted advisors for all financial aspects of their personal and professional lives. Our platinum-level client service model has allowed us to harvest deep rooted relationships with our clients and their other trusted advisors. Apercen FOS continues to grow, and we are seeking individuals who can advise clients as well as manage, grow and develop their own teams of professionals. 


Under the leadership and direction of the FOS Payroll and HR Manager, you will assist with FOS client human resources needs and payroll processing.   • Work with FOS payroll specialists to prepare, provide, collect, and review new hire paperwork and documents to onboard client employees
  • Work with FOS payroll specialists to prepare, provide, collect, and review employee separation notices and related documentation for client employee terminations
  • Assist with FOS client health insurance and retirement benefits administration, including audit responses, new hire processing, and open enrollment periods
  • Provide FOS clients and their employees with a comprehensive picture of their benefit options and answer any benefit-related questions
  • Assist in the recommendation, set up, and administration of HR policies, procedures, and programs for FOS clients
  • Support the FOS Payroll and HR Manager as a resource for FOS and tax teams regarding client HR and/or payroll questions
  • Research and stay current on trends applicable to Apercen clients, including but not limited to:
    • Governance for employers of household staff (individual employers, entities, etc.)
    • Regulations pertaining to non-profit employers
    • State regulations outside of California in which FOS clients have employees
    • Benefit options for small employers
    • HR and payroll best practices
  • Prepare client-ready communications regarding HR and payroll matters
  • Assist with review of ad hoc reporting prepared by payroll specialists
  • Assist with developing periodic internal training for FOS client and tax teams, as applicable
  • Assist with FOS client worker's compensation administration and audit responses
  • Assist with ad hoc HR and payroll research when requested


  • Minimum of 5-7 years of prior HR experience in a fast-paced environment
  • HR certifications and/or related degree
  • Prior payroll processing experience and familiarity with third-party payroll processing software
  • Prior benefit administration experience, including health and retirement plans
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations related to HR, including but not limited to staffing, employee relations, leaves of absences, FMLA, ADA, PDL, CFRA, EEOC, Cal OSHA, OSHA, Worker's Compensation, HIPPA, and multi-state HR requirements
  • Knowledge of Federal and state payroll tax laws, including multi-state taxation requirements
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external teams both verbally and via email
  • Possession of the utmost integrity and ability to uphold client confidentiality
  • Ability to adapt quickly to change
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Must be detail-oriented
  • Ability to understand and carry out directions in an independent manner
  • Ability to process rush items or otherwise meet daily deadlines
